![]() Even if I know I’m never going to keep up with the top 15% of players even on a fresh start server, there’s still 20x the number of players who are progressing their characters again, just like me. ![]() You forget that a lot of people just want that feeling again. The funnest time in any MMO is when it’s first released, and everyone is exploring the game together. MMOs are primarily about the shared experience of the world. Fresh start servers, even if you’re playing casually, you’ll still find a sizable chunk of the playerbase not miles ahead of you. Normal servers you will be way behind 95% of the playerbase. They just want to feel on par with the general playerbase, and fresh start servers absolutely help with that. Most people aren’t trying to feel on par with the top 1% or top 10% of players. This is also why people buy stuff like character boosts in WoW. If 90% of the playerbase is sitting in WW or EF the entire time you’re out leveling, it can remind you of how behind and alone you are. In general, it’s more fun to level up and gear a character when there’s lots of other people out in the world doing the same. Devs understand this and its why games do fresh start servers, to pull in new and returning players.Īlso, it makes your experience a lot more immersive when there’s a lot of players in the world doing the same type of stuff you are. That’s not to say people don’t jump into MMOs all the time, but they have to be very adamant about it, because it’s daunting. You’ll spend at least 100 hours feeling like you’re behind 99% of the playerbase, because you are. It’s hard to convince someone to spend 100 hours leveling and gearing a character when everyone else is already maxed out and sitting on tons of gold and items. People generally wait for fresh start servers to get back into an MMO because it makes all of your progress feel a lot more meaningful and also makes the world feel more alive.
